The Tools
Two instruments, designed to be used together, in order, and more than once. The first is the Lid Audit. The second is the Barrier Map. The Audit produces the Map.
They aren't workbook exercises. They're reference instruments — a diagnostic and a map — for working on the specific Lid in front of you right now. Use them while you're reading, or years from now when a different one shows up.

The Lid Audit — one page.
The four-step diagnostic. About ten minutes once you've named the Lid.
The Barrier Map — one page.
The full anatomy of a single Lid, written out. About twenty minutes the first time.
Date them. Keep them. A folder of completed Maps is a record of the Lids you've worked through and what each one was made of.
How they work together
The Lid Audit is fast and diagnostic. You name the specific move you haven't been making, read a set of questions for each of the five elements, and notice your own reactions — the agreement, the hesitation, the small flinch that means a question has landed on something. Then you score each element 1 to 5 on how much of the weight is sitting there.
The Barrier Map is slow and documentary. You take what the Audit surfaced and write out the full anatomy of your specific Lid, region by region, in your own words, until it's something you can hold and file and come back to.
The Audit gives you a working read. The Map gives you a working picture.
The numbers are your own honest read, not a measurement of anything. There's no formula behind them and no science under them. They're a way to externalize an impression that's otherwise hard to name.

The internal face
identity, self-concept, and what you've come to believe belongs to you.
The external face
the missing map: information and exposure you don't have about how the next level runs.
The Threshold Loop
the six-step cycle that returns you to where you started, every time, with a reason that sounded good.
The Social Lid
the environment reflecting an older version of you back at you.
The Fog
the limit of your ability to picture the next level in concrete detail.
